How to start a cam call

The four steps

Step 1 — Open CamCall in any browser. Phone or computer both work; there is no app to install. Confirm you are 18 or older at the gate.

Step 2 — Let the browser use your camera and microphone. The permission popup appears the first time; approve it once and you are set. You can still start with your camera off and turn it on when you are comfortable.

Step 3 — Tap the dial button. CamCall rings you through to someone who is on camera and free to talk right now. Prefer choosing? The "who is on the line" list shows people live at this moment — pick one and call directly.

Step 4 — Say hi. That is genuinely it. Stay while the conversation is good, hang up when you are done, and dial again for someone new.

What to say in the first thirty seconds

You do not need a line. The camera does most of the work — smile, say hi, and ask one real question: where are they calling from, how is their night going, what is behind them on camera. Specific beats clever every time.

The only real mistake is treating the call like a performance review. The other person picked up because they wanted to talk to someone new too — you are already past the hard part.

If the camera will not connect

Nine times out of ten it is browser permissions: check the camera icon in the address bar and set both camera and microphone to Allow, then reload. If another app is using the camera (a meeting app is the usual suspect), close it first.

On phones, low-power mode and very old browser versions can also block video — plug in, update, retry. If all else fails, a different browser takes thirty seconds to try.
